MOTE'S ENDLESS SUMMER

“Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you shall run to you, Because of the LORD your God…” (Isaiah 55:5)

First of all we want to thank each of you for your prayers during Hurricane Irene….yes, like so many others; we suffered a great amount of water damage. The day after the storm hit Chappy had to leave for Puerto Rico and I for Missouri! Our friend and MOTE “Bible Study Coordinator” (CBS for the prison ministry) Pastor Felipe Mendoza came to our rescue. His clean up team mopped up all the rooms of standing water, and made all necessary repairs to the ceilings and walls while we were gone. This Dominican Republic leader is our hero, our friend and an answer to all our prayers!

It has been an endless summer of wave after wave of men, women and children hearing and receiving the Gospel. The Lord is faithful as HE leads MOTE and the vision given to reach the nations. The summer wave of mission teams coming alongside of MOTE in its flourishing prison programs, rehab centers, medical outreach and children’s education and evangelism activities is the reason why MOTE has been called to serve in Jesus name!

La Victoria Prison

Cholera Outbreak: MOTE was challenged this summer by the severe Cholera outbreaks in both the La Victoria and Seibo prisons. Unfortunately the government would not allow us to work at Seibo to help the prisoners. We were fortunate to have been given a wonderful donation from, Jubilee Church in San Jose who was here on a mission trip, to purchase the needed Clorox to clean the water at the La Victoria Prison. This donation saw a significant decrease in the number of Cholera victims. THANK YOU JUBALEE CHURCH you put your faith into action!!!

La Victoria Inmate Graduation: La Victoria prison saw MOTE's 3rd Annual graduation of 235 men who completed all three components of MOTE’s Christ Centered Curriculum; CBS studies, Attitributes of God and Character Education. The graduates passed the oral and written exams and received certificates for the achievement. We rejoice as this is a step in building their Christian character. This will enable the men to contribute to their communities when released. To God be the Glory! It's why we are here.

Puerto Rico Second Pastor’s Conference

The conference, which was held 8/24/11, was well received and attended by many pastors from the East, Central and Western regions of Puerto Rico. The MOTE Christ Centered Reform programs that are working effectively in the Dominican Republic and Mexico will now be started in Puerto Rico. We thank God for the wonderful hearts of all the pastors who have now engaged in the MOTE programs. Again thank you for your prayers and support. We believe God will bless the vision MOTE has been given for this Puerto Rico ministry.

Triad Community Church Mission Team

We are looking forward to having a large 40 member mission team come from Triad Community Church in Virginia the week of 10/8-10/15. They are a seasoned team who have served here before. We can’t wait to see the work that the Lord will be doing through them and in them! How blessed we are to have this body of believers join us in HIS good work!

Puerto Rico/Bethel Seminary Conference

In addition, MOTE is collaborating once again with Bethel Seminary, San Diego, as they host a 3 day Pastors Conference in Puerto Rico on 10/27-29th. This will be the second annual conference that MOTE (Dr. Chappy) has hosted for Bethel as an adjunct professor. Friends of MOTE, Pastor Felipe Mendoza and David DeMers, a Bethel graduate, will also be teaching along with Dr. Chappy.

During this “endless summer” of 2011 MOTE has been “poured out like a drink offering……” (Philippians 2:17). A worthy sacrifice, a joy filled time of service, encouraged by your faith that continues to lift us up! Now we need the continued prayer and financial support by the body to finish victoriously this year and beginning in 2012!

Thank you for your prayers, support and love by sharing this with others so they can also partner with God. “Nations, who do not know you, shall run to you, because of the Lord your God.” (Isaiah 55:5).

They Prayed for Me

“And pray for us too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly as I should.” Colossians 4:3-4 (NIV)
My good friends – thanks for taking the time with me. I know how busy you are and for you to give time to this short note - well - I am really grateful and I hope these words from Holy Scripture and from my heart will strengthen you today – maybe even add to your faith – that would be a real blessing.
This text has special meaning for me. I am not in chains, anymore, but I do remember the feeling and the appreciation for being truly free. The two verses for this devotion describe a battlefield theologian, Paul, the courageous one; passion for those whom he taught, whom he was a role model too and those whom he served with. Can you hear his heart in this request, “Please pray for me.”
His desire was that his friends would focus their prayers toward him as a person. He needed and wanted his beloved friends to lift his name – lift his request directly to the Almighty. Paul did not ask for treasure – he did not ask for them to ask God to remove the “thorn in my flesh” (2Corinthians 12:7). He asked God’s chosen because he knew the only true and living God would listen and show him favor in his request. Oh my what confidence he had in the prayers of the saints!
He asked the Family of God to go directly into the throne of grace on his behalf. Paul is on the front lines of the spiritual battlefield. The souls of men and women were at stake and he knew it. His request to his friends was specific. “Open the doors – doors of prisons, doors of communities, doors where children are at play and the most important door was the one to the hearts of mankind. His plea in these verses was that the Holy Spirit would use him as an instrument for global communication.
Paul wanted his friends in the churches to pray that God would us his mouth to preach the mystery of Christ to the world. Unselfish – others focused – servant leader – that is how they identified their friend – pastor – mentor. His friends had no problem with his request. I believe that they immediately folded their hands – fell to their knees and offered sincere prayers that had astounding results (Paul wrote 13 Books of the Bible) God answered Paul’s request “Pray that I may proclaim it clearly as I should.” He did! Paul desired nothing for himself except one thing, to represent God without fault – correct and clear message of hope in Christ through faith alone in the Person of Jesus Christ. May that be our prayer as well. But, we must ask our friends to pray for us that we might, like Paul, proclaim the mystery of Christ in and out of season. Jesus said, “Ask and it will be given …” (Matthew 7:7- NIV)
Today, as you read this, I am asking you to pray for me in the same manner. I suppose that it is a bit selfish and I am still going to ask. I sincerely desire that God would grant to me through His Holy Spirit the boldness and clarity to proclaim the Word of Truth – The power that is the mystery of Christ. Yes, my dear friends, He has set this captive free – there are no more chains except that which has bound me to Jesus Christ.
“And pray for us too …” that is this missionary’s request and I can hardly wait to see the fruit from your prayers.

The MOTE theme for this quarter centered around the Apostle Peter.
He was the one who got out of the boat. Peter, a model for us today,
Was a doer of the Word. “Come” and he obeyed with the
Courageous step of faith.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil
Walks about like a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour.
Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are
Experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” 1st Peter 5:8-9 (NKJ)

Sandee and I were so blessed to be in San Diego in early June and fellowship with many of you, in spite of my back pain, which the Lord is healing day by day. Sandee and I spoke to groups, preached and shared the vision, “To exalt Jesus Christ through relational evangelism reaching people on the edge.” with you, our beloved friends, in the body of Christ.

On June 24tht the Lord brought to us the wonderfully Christ filled 30 member mission team from Living Way Church of Poway. What a joy to have them serve with us for ten days in the 3 regions where MOTE’ Christ Centered Programs are impacting lives and communities. In the West region: prison ministry and church planting; the Central region: children’s programs, church plants and men’s transition housing projects and in the East region: the new Seibo prison ministry project.

The team worked extremely hard, and was used greatly in doing evangelism, medical outreach and construction in the two villages. It was powerful to see them use puppets, face painting, making of salvation bracelets, crafts, medical and eye glass clinics and construction to reach hundreds for Jesus in these areas! They worked alongside Dominican men, women and children with total joy! They were also used in the La Victoria prison mightily doing outreach dramas, singing and preaching the Word. We witnessed within the darkest dungeons of the La Victoria prison the power of the Holy Spirit as 23 men came to the Lord!!

Angels are indeed singing, and this group is being blessed for going out into the world and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and truly meeting others physical needs. Their mission trip theme was “Stepping Out of the Boat”, and Sandee and I saw firsthand that they indeed stepped out of their comfort zones, and did indeed work for the Lord! To this end, MOTE along with Living Way team was awarded plaques from the Mayor of Guerra, and the Pastor’s Association for “Stepping Out” and helping neighbors for Christ! We were all blessed. The MOTE ministries are changing communities!

In addition to having the team here, I attended meetings with the nation’s new Director of Prisons to confirm the Christ Centered Prison Reform Project contract to continue the good work within the prisons of the D.R. Conferences are also being arranged for the Pastor’s near the Seibo prison to continue the work there. Please keep the men in this prison in prayer as Cholera is reported there. The prayer is that this government will finally acknowledge the horrific living conditions of the men inside the prison, and begin to clean it!! The preaching of the Good News inside Seibo is a harvest for the kingdom of God. The prayer walks, your prayers and your financial support is transforming lives and it will change this prison just like MOTE saw in La Mesa Prison, Tijuana, Mexico.

As we go into the 3rd quarter of 2011, we want to especially thank those of you who are supporting Sandee and I a full time missionaries. We are asking that those of you considering us a part of your giving - prayerfully consider becoming a financial partner with us. Souls are being delivered out of the dominion of darkness and their lives are forever changed. Your support and commitment to prayer is making the difference in this lost world. Breaking New Ground-April/May 2011

This has been a great time for Sandee and I (MOTE) in the Dominican Republic, much work and much accomplished through Jesus our Lord.
In early April we were so blessed to get permission again from the new Commander of Seibo Prison to video the inhumane conditions inside this prison. MOTE is producing an “eye opening” video and pieces are already posted to the MOTE Facebook site.

MOTE and its “warriors for God” came to the Dominican from California and Minnesota with a focus on doing children’s medical clinics, and to prepare a survey reporting the severe living conditions (or lack thereof) of La Victoria and Seibo Prisons. The expertise of Calvin Casey, Engineer, Deborah Casey, R.N. Instructor, and Garryl Hudgins, Ph.D., all MOTE supporters,were called upon to do the survey. THANK YOU from all of us at MOTE. In addition, the team went with us to a poverty stricken village outside the city of Santo Domingo. The little community is surrounded by a polluted body of water, and the villagers are continually sick. So with Calvin, Deborah and Dr.Garryl’s expertise a plan was given to MOTE’S Coordinator for the region, Pastor Felipe Mendoza to develop a cleanup plan. MOTE and Pastor Felipe are starting a church plant in this impoverished community.
The key to their trip was medical clinics for the children in 3 villages. The first was held in Yamasa, a beautiful village in the foothills, where Pastor Felipe started a church many years ago. Now MOTE has a homework club there. We were able to set up our clinic in a class room in their wonderful little school. We worked with a local doctor who was very appreciative of our bringing medicine and giving of our time! About 140 children were seen and about 30 adults were ministered to, prayed over and provided needed medical attention.
The second clinic we did was in a little village called, La Caleta. This is a MOTE supported church plant with Pastor Felipe. We had to hike back to this little village carrying our supplies and GOD was so good it didn’t rain!!! We set up our little clinic in the tiny little school shack and it worked perfectly! I and some team members worked with the children as they waited to be seen, as well as interfaced with the other community members. About 75 children and about 20 adults were seen. And of course Chappy was on the ground with the children!
The third clinic was held in the community of Guerra, where MOTE is working with a girl’s orphanage and a Christian school. It was wonderful to see the moms waiting with their children. Your gift’s have made this possible. And of course I couldn’t let the opportunity go by without playing and working with the precious children…the old Homework Club days! Yep count it all joy!!! About 140 children and adults were seen.
The clinics were hot and hard work for Sandee and Deb Casey who had (by God’s grace) wonderful volunteers as well as translators working with them, especially our dear missionary friend, Kristin Wolford. The Word was given to them as they left the medical station and God was given the glory for all the work done.
And last but not least, the team attended an evangelistic outreach event at La Victoria prison. We were able to have the group meet with the new General of the prison, whom Sandee and I know personally, and who completely supports the Christ Centered Reform Project in this prison. And then Pastor Ray Sparling preached to about 200 men under a tent in the baseball field…and the glory of it all was that about 8 men came to the Lord that day in spite of rain!!!! We celebrate with the angels for their decision! Now they will be plugged into the churches inside the prison, under the direction of the MOTE trained Pastors. Changing a nation, one man at a time!
It was an amazing couple of weeks of work, prayer, ministry, laughter and praising GOD for all HE is doing in and through us, the teams, and the communities here in the Dominican Republic!

On Saturday, April 16th, Dr. Chappy did an all day Pastor’s Conference held in Guerra. Pastors from this community asked him to speak giving MOTE’s vision for their community dealing with “breaking down the barriers building upon the Rock-Christ Centered Faith”. It was a God directed, powerful time, wonderfully received, and many pastors have found a renewal in their relationships with each other and reconciliation began in their community! Amazing Grace!
Pastors Conference in Puerto Rico
God showed us amazing favor during our Puerto Rico trip, May 10th – 12th. A one day meeting turned into a mini-conference of 38 people two days later! Pastors and prison association leaders caught the MOTE vision for a Christ Centered Collaboration, and want to begin implementing the programs. In addition, a government official, Captain Israel Soto, who works with the prisons, attended and confirmed the need and desire to begin this project. This is more than Sandee and I could have hoped for.
We are so excited and blessed to see God growing the ministry in other countries, as well as so appreciative of your prayer coverage and financial support. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR STANDING IN PRAYER WITH US IN THIS GREAT WORK!

SOUL – SOLDIER- CONQUEROR

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua1:9)
The walk by faith wears on the soul. The soldier of God travels one step to the next on the rough path of righteous living. The enemy is left behind, beaten by the last battle, but is reorganizing for the one that is ahead, on the path where the “more than a conqueror… (Romans 8:37) is traveling. Unless, of course, the soul, the soldier, and the conqueror have abandoned his Captain. Unless, of course, the walk of faith is as Jesus said to His disciples, “How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:40). Unless, of course, the enlisted who gave the oath, signed the pledge and hailed the Captain chooses the safe shelter, the comfortable routine, the apathetic attitude towards the honorable service in the Captain’s army.
The enemy takes the ground when attacking the apathetic soul, but is beaten back by the “more than a conqueror”. Where are you in the battle? How do others; souls, soldiers and conquerors see you?
Author, Bryant L. Myers, in his book “Walking with the Poor” made this observation about the battle a follower of Jesus of Nazareth is in: “Human progress is not inevitable it takes hard work and there is an adversary who works against our desire to enhance life.” And author, Art Mathias, in his book “Biblical Foundations of Freedom” says “Being born again doesn’t make us immune to evil. It means we have the power to overcome evil, in the person of Jesus.”
This is a new season, and another Resurrection Sunday has just passed. The glorified Son of God defeated evil. The Father sent the Helper to be with you, and to live in you. Soul, Soldier, Conqueror now is the time to get in the battle. Secure the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11, 13, 17), and be bold for Jesus. Unless, of course, you “love the world or the things of the world” (1John 2:15), and your enemy becomes your friend. Where will your walk of faith take you in this new season?

MOTE Ministries in the Western Region: Santo Domingo – La Victoria Prison – Yamasa

The small and rural community of "Yamasa”. It is a native Indian name for a “remote village”. This is MOTE's collaboration with Pastor Felipe Mendoza, MOTE's Western regional coordinator, in a church planting project. Dr Chappy and Pastor Felipe are continuing the work with local Christian leaders in evangelism, discipleship and practical health issues (clean water and sanitation). Joining in the project will be Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church's ( RBCPC ) mission team arriving April 2nd, and will be serving in Yamasa on April 5 to assist the leaders in this good work.

In the western region is also MOTE's large prison project, LA VICTORIA prison. Now in its 4th year of the MOTE Christ-Centered Reform Programs. Hundreds of men involved with MOTE will be attending this special event. The event is set for APRIL 7th and R B C P C's Pastor Ray Sparling will be bringing the Gospel Message to the 5500 inmates. Pray that those who have been ordained to come, satan will not be able to stop!

MOTE Ministries in the CENTRAL Region – Boca Chica – Guerra

The children’s ministries and the men's transitional housing programs are thriving in the central region of our MOTE ministries in the Dominican Republic. Dr. Chappy puts on classes
during the week and officiated at their recent graduation. The graduates were robed in their gown and caps, families were snapping photos! Members from the surrounding faith community and other community leaders, even the local television network were there. They all watched and applauded the men who had successfully completed the nine months of spiritual disciplines, Bible studies, job training and community service. MOTE has been supporting this ministry for over three years, thank you donors - this is fruit of your gifts as we all do our part in the kingdom. The men at the Gomez Transition facility say Dios te bendiga mucho !

The Central Region is MOTE's outreach to the girl’s orphanage within this poor community of Guerra. MOTE's goal is to assist in the supporting of its orphanage and small education center. Pastor Chappy has worked with Pastora Beatrice and her church in the village of GUERRA since 2009. On April 16th, Saturday, Dr Chappy will be the key note speaker at a pastor’s conference in GUERRA. A vision of unity and collaboration is the theme for the churches in this area, with a goal to reach the citizens of Guerra with the Gospel. Having all Christian churches participating in unity will be a first for the area! In addition, MOTE partners back home and in the region are making plans for improving the girl’s orphanage living facility. RBCPC will be visiting the site on APRIL 8th. A medical mission’s outreach will also be coordinated by one of the RBCPC mission team, Debra Casey M.RN. Dr Chappy worked with Debra at Pomerado Hospital when he was the Director of Chaplaincy from 1996 – 2008. In addition there are plans for another USA mission group from Living Way Church when they come this year to repair the children’s education center. English teaching classes are needed but the resources to pay the teachers is not available at this time; please pray for support for this MOTE program in 2011 and beyond.

MOTE Ministries in the Eastern Region. Hato Mayor & Seibo

Pastor Carlos Soeggard – MOTE’s eastern regional coordinator is leading the MOTE # 2 Christ-Centered Reform Project at the SEIBO Prison in the community of Seibo. Since August of 2010 MOTE has been investing your support, leaning on your prayers and walking by faith doing miscellaneous work in this Eastern Region: MOTE sponsored pastor’s conferences (3) – workshops – prayer walks around the prison with over three hundred prayer warriors – exterior cleaning crews and numerous meetings with government leaders.

The prayers of all the saints here and there have resulted in positive changes at the prison. The old command was removed and the new one has arrived. Chappy met the new Colonel last week and the Colonel has pledged his full support for the MOTE Reform Program at his, the Seibo prison.

NOW is the time to begin. If you haven’t seen the one minute MOTE clip that MOTE’s producer, Tom Miller created, showing the inside of Seibo Prison which has never been filmed before, you need to, “NOW is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”( 2nd Corinthians 6:2 NKJ - my emphasis). On April 4, 2011, MOTE and a team of professionals, RBCPC mission team included, will be entering this most violent prison with the purpose to write a survey report on what clean up, what repair, and what sanitation can be done to improve the living- the learning-the life of these men so that “NEW LIFE” in Christ can happen!

Authentic Signs of Faith

Isaiah 58:12 (b)

God expects that our lives, those whom are “Followers of Jesus of Nazareth” (1st
Cor. 11:1) , our churches where the whole word of God is taught (2nd Tim 3:16), He expects “us” to be characterized by these “authentic signs” of personal and corporate transformation: compassion, mercy, justice and love – inward (Ps. 19:14)
and outward (Matt. 25:34-40) demonstrated tangibly.

Think on these things today. Since your name is written in the Book of Life (Php. 4:3 – Rev 21:27) you and I are good to go. What is on your schedule today that will demonstrate authentic signs of faith in your God? Stop and look at what is on the schedule that needs to be changed! Is there an appointment, a meeting or a situation that your faith can and must be put into action?

The days we, “Followers of Jesus”, live in are not days for weakness – but great courage. Yes, Joshua and Caleb style of “authentic signs of faith” is what is called for right now – right where you are sitting or standing – NOW is the time to be authentic about your faith in Jesus Christ! Now – even if it costs you everything? Will you do it?

Consider your walk with your God. Is it in need of raw courage – ask for it! Are you unsure about the decision you will have to make? Trust your God now and do not doubt, “... lean not on your own understanding ...” (Proverbs 3:5). Only then, my dear friend and fellow leaders in the churches, will “ your light break forth like the dawn ...your healing will come quickly … your cries for help shall be answered and He will say, 'Here I AM'. (Isa.58:8-9)

The Power of HIS Might

Ephesians 6:18, “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit ...”
First and foremost, Sandee and I want to tell you all how much we love and appreciate the wonderful reception we had going home to San Diego end of January! Our trip was refreshing and renewing and we made some wonderful new friends as well. It was amazing to come back to the Dominican having our house fully secured and safe, and being able to stay in it the very first night home. Please know that we couldn’t be back here without your love, prayers and financial support making it possible for us to further God’s work. God Bless you!
So the year begins and we see MOTE ministries moving down the tracks at full speed. MOTE USA and MOTE International as of January 1, 2011 was like being on a “white knuckler” roller coaster – sitting at the very top of the highest point, just before the enormous drop that is about to take your breath away. Chappy Dave is in the front car and his hands are “raised high”. He is shouting at the top of his lungs. I think you could hear him from where you are right now! “Praise God – Ya Hoo!”

MOTE Ministry “Quick Glances”
USA/Mexico
La Mesa Prison Ministries: Since 1994 MOTE and its Christian leaders have been reaching the American and English speaking men and women prisoners with the Gospel, Baptisms, CBS Bible studies and Comfort Care and mail, as well as connecting with families of inmates every week. Please continue to pray and support our faithful team who crosses the Mexican border every Thursday, and that all of the American men in our church would be allowed to attend each week.
After School Home Work Club: Since 2000, MOTE's faith “in Christ” based ministry serves the needy families at Valley Elementary School in Poway CA. MOTE's site supervisor, Itziar Haumschilt, a gifted woman of God, talented leader and teacher coordinates the volunteers and teams that oversee 100-120 children 5 days a week from 2:00 to 6:00 at no cost to the needy families. International – Dominican Republic
La Victoria Prison: MOTE “Christ-Centered Prison Reform Project”
1. Medical Clinics held on January 11 & February 1st. We reached over 700 men. In addition all were treated and then escorted to a MOTE classroom where they all heard the Gospel preached. Over two hundred men received Christ and are now plugged into one of the 13 MOTE prison churches inside La Victoria Prison. Thank you SCORE International and other friends of MOTE! A total volunteer crew of 55 including MD's, Dentists, Optometrist, Psychiatrists, RN's and assistants from America. This was the largest medical clinic the prison has ever had! PRAISE GOD FOR THIS WORK!
2. The Agriculture Project continues to produce its fruit, vegetables, and training. The food being grown is given to the medical clinic for the sick men and to the elderly men who have no other sources to get food. The government provides very little for the prisoners, therefore MOTE is helping solve the food shortage with its agriculture program inside the prison! Thank you for your support for this project.
3. MOTE 13 prison church plants are growing to almost 2000 men. In 2007 MOTE began with 200 men in small groups, and today it has grown 10 X’s! Your prayers and support have accomplished greater works than could ever have been imagined (Ephesians 3:20)
4. Parole Ranch plans are in the works. There is no parole system in the D.R. MOTE’s Christ Centered Prison Reform Project includes development of a working ranch that will be self sustaining. Please prayerfully consider being a partner in this nation changing project.
SEIBO Prison: From July to December of 2010, MOTE held 3 conferences with church leaders in SEIBO Region. The conferences included workshops and training provided by MOTE and its leaders. The actual role out of the second MOTE “Christ Centered” prison program began with Prayer Walks, Cleaning, Medical Clinics, and Evangelism on January 8th,,15th, 17th, and 18th. The work is just starting and your prayers and financial support are needed to bring about these changes. God is faithful!
MOTE Children Programs Mendoza Home Work Club and Church Plants: MOTE has activities with the needy children in the poorest communities in the D. R. Pastor Felipe Mendoza, in his third year with MOTE, has programs every day for children including English classes in process. Church plants are in process with MOTE graduates from CBS Bible studies under the leadership of Pastor Felipe. As this ministry is growing and children, parents, and grandparents are being reached with the Good News, we see lives being changed, health is improving. The future includes having MOTE's partners in water filtrations systems, and food distribution coming along MOTE for these villages. In addition, plans are being made for four new church plants this year alone. Please partner with MOTE in this good work.
Men's Transitional Housing and Rehab, the Gomez Project and Teaching: MOTE has partnered with the churches and the Gomez family in support of the transitional housing for men coming out of prison and off the street. Chappy teaches classes each week and involves the men in work projects at ministry sites.
The ride is exciting and it is moving fast. The time is short and the souls to be reached are many! MOTE and its team of believers have hands raised high knowing that at each turn the Lord is riding with us and strong are His arms – securing us in our ride to the finish.

My Friends, we are so happy to report that The MOTE ministry team, which has not been able to get into the La Mesa, Tijuana, MX prison for months, reported wonderful news of their entry into the prison for a Christmas gathering of the American men! PRAISE GOD! The news refreshed my heart for the men and women of the MOTE American Christian Church (Iglesia Cristiana Americana) inside La Mesa Prison. The women’s team was also allowed into the women’s side to give their Christmas party.
I thank you, the ministry team, and all our prayer warriors, for the sacrifice you make of giving of yourselves to this difficult ministry weekly “a sweet aroma unto the LORD indeed”.

Affecting the Future

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7)

Can the one who has been made from the dust affect the future? A very small speck of this earth's crust is going to have an effect on the future. Is this possible? One human being amongst seven billion other specks of the earth's crust having anything to do with the future is a stretch. Or is it? In the Genesis account it is clear where the Creator pulled mankind from – dirt!

Sometimes I feel as old as dirt. The body I am living in and the mind that indwells there talk a lot of dirt. We human kind has a phrase for it, “talking trash”. I am not proud of this and I must admit there is a need for some house cleaning. If there is a possibility that I can affect the future I am going to need some heavy duty cleanser; or not? We can speak trash and live it out in the world and affect the future – negatively. That is great! We specks of the earth’s crust can affect the future. I answered my own question. I seem to be surrounded by a lot of dirt who are affecting others with their dirt and so it is in this world.

What can I do about this discouraging theme since I am also “formed of the dust of the ground.”? I read on in the text of Genesis 2:7 and I discover hope – a cleansing – clean air so to speak “...and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;” The power is in the breath of life. When I breathe in God I can affect the future for good – for positive change – forever. I have a choice it seems. I can either let the dirt that is within me rule and produce the “trash” and bring negative effect on my surroundings and to myself or receive the gift of life which is God's Holy Spirit.

Affecting the future will have a positive or negative legacy. Each one of us will have one. A legacy is what you leave behind on your exit from this earth. That is the “Left Behind Story”. What will yours be? Those who have ...”heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation ... having believed … sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.” (Ephesians 1:13) will have a powerfully significant affect on the future. How do we know this? The Bible is clear on this point, “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you (oh man of dust who has chosen the good and has received the breath of life) will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6).

Unborn generations are depending on our faithfulness today. Are you satisfied being the insignificant crust of earth or are you ready to affect the future significantly? Peter was a significant fisherman and Matthew was a significant accountant. They were regular man-dirt that was transformed by the Holy Spirit into significance! Today, you can be a magnificent source of life changing power by simply surrendering your insignificance to the SIGNIFICANT ONE, Jesus Christ. So which will it be, negative man-dirt of the seven billion to the one in seven billion empowered to affect the future for the good --- to the glory of God. The choice is yours. My hope for you my friend is that you choose to affect 2011's future leaving a legacy of promise – hope – and love.

September – October – November – December

Personal Note:

“He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; you have delivered me from the violent man. Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the Gentiles, and sing praises to Your name.” Psalm 18:48,49 NKJV

The end of summer and the beginning of September was a “wake up call” for us. Waking up at 2:00 am to two armed robbers in our bedroom on September 9, and surviving without injury is a testimony to the verses from Psalm 18. 'The LORD delivered us from the violent man.” Others in this area have not been so fortunate. There have been 12 foreigners murdered recently in this area by robbers breaking into their homes. Well apparently there is an addendum to this robbery piece. Last night after we went to bed there was another attempted break in. They cut through the barbed wire and made it into the backyard. With that David started screaming at them and we blew loud whistles to get our security guards attention!!! They fled and we were safe once again.

This has been a life changing and amazing year for Sandee and I, and we intend to continue the work God has called us to at home in San Diego, Mexico and Dominican Republic. But we need your continued and committed prayers and generous financial support! So to say living this first year in this violent country has been extremely “challenging” for us is an understatement. In addition, just driving here is enormously dangerous, with night driving being the most dangerous. Many of my meetings at churches are at night in little out of the way towns. In this country the Christian church meets every night, not just Sundays. The poor meet every day to encourage and feed and clothe one another. The church is the central life blood of the family so I must continue to reach out to them.

In addition, this past year we returned to San Diego every four months for ten days. It was a whirlwind of speaking engagements, meetings, and fund raising for our support. Please pray for our mental, physical and financial health as we know you are in prayer for our protection and spiritual development.

MOTE “Ms. Money Penny” as I affectionately call her, Charlene Palhegy is MOTE's bookkeeper who faithfully and consistently keeps the finances of MOTE in order. She prepares all financial reports, tracks and keeps the P U S D – the ASES grant for the Home Work Club, as well as sees that the international exchange between US currency and Dominican Pesos are all in order! USA MISSIONS:

MOTE's Home Work Club at Valley Elementary School in Poway, CA began its 11th season. A faith-based Christian ministry which began in early August, 2000. The 100-120 needy children and their families are provided the no cost program 3 hours each day, five days a week. The three components to MOTE HWC are: assisting in homework, activities/recreation and BLAST Character Development. The leadership provided by Itziar Haumschilt is superior. “Itzy” brings the love of Christ every day to the parents and the children as she leads the Christian volunteers. The MOTE Team is bringing the love and values of Christ within the Poway Unified School District. Your continued financial support will help us continue this program in the midst of the financial problems in California.

INTERNATIONAL –MEXICO

La Mesa Prison, Tijuana, Baja Mx. – American Christian Church (Iglesia Cristiana Americana) is a church plant started by Pastor Chappy in 1994. Attending are American and English speaking men and women incarcerated in this violent prison across from the San Diego border.

These past three months have been very difficult for the servant leaders who faithfully cross the border once a week into Tijuana. The government has not allowed us entry on many occasions into the prison. And currently, there is a restriction on many of the men and women to even go to church. There is a spiritual battle going on. The Body of Christ needs the full armor of God to battle with the dark powers of evil. (Eph 6:10-17) The call for prayer is now. The call for a team of prayer partners to go to La Mesa and do the PRAYER WALK around the walls is now. Please consider weekly prayers to for the committed mission volunteers who weekly cross the Tijuana border. La Victoria Prison

There are hundreds of prisoners in our overall MOTE program – we started with 200 in 2007 and now we are over 1700. They attend daily Bible studies (CBS Model) and character and education classes and many are starting into Phase 2 in the MOTE job development and A G program. It is all Christ-Centered and part of God’s hand in developing the "Whole Man" in Christ. The AG farm project is a GREAT success and the “fruit” of the inmates work is outstanding to see. Thank you for praying and for your precious gifts that have made an impact in TRANSFORMING MEN’S lives. “Remembering those in prison – as if you were chained with them …: Hebrews 13:3

Bethel Seminary Class Pastors Conference

In addition to our regular missions work, we had the opportunity to teach our American seminary students practical theology in the field classroom. I, as one of Bethel’s Theological Seminary's Adjunct Professors, and 2 other Professors from San Diego conducted a cross-cultural class in the Dominican Republic for 7 Bethel Masters in Divinity students who spent 9 days here in September and in October. The course of study taught by Dr Chappy was titled, “Facilitating Community Development – Global Contextual Studies” The classroom time included meetings with community leaders and pastors in the very poor and rural communities where MOTE serves the Lord. The class spent time in the prison environment where the MOTE Christ-Centered Prison Reform Project is actively working in a third world setting. This was the Bethel student’s classroom in the field.

In addition, two conferences for local Dominican pastors were held in late August and one in late October to engage more local churches in the MOTE programs. As the poor have little finances they can only volunteer and provide some material. There is a need for continued financial support.

Constantly Depending

“Let us examine our ways and test them and let us return to the Lord”(Lamentations 3:40).

“The most healthy state of a true believer is to be always empty in self (John 3:30) and constantly depending (Proverbs 3:5-6) upon the Lord for supplies…to be always poor in self and rich in Jesus.” CH Spurgeon

The Latin term “Coram Deo” means “before the face of God”, or simply living each moment aware that God is always present. It is a reminder that all humanity, all creation is “Corum Deo”. Do we walk in awareness knowing that God is ever present? Probably not! We ought to walk and breath in the awe and reverence of the all-knowing God. The One who is “Corum Deo” is the One “who so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” (John 3:16). The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 1:7). My friend, the Divine created you in HIS image. The Divine presence is knocking at the door of your heart. Your Maker wants you and me to be Constantly Depending on HIS love and care and presence. The next step for you is to open your mind and your heart to the beginning of wisdom.

God will be with you and in you when your heart and mind say yes, come in and … let’s reason together … (Isaiah 1:18). Now is a good time to do some reasoning with God. Prayer is in itself, apart from the answer, which it brings, a great benefit to me and I believe it for you as well. Think on these things. I know I am Constantly Depending!

Being Still

“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

Jesus of Nazareth, the perfection of His person is an amazing mystery that has been passed down to us in the Holy Scriptures. It is the revealed mystery of His attributes. Believers attribute to Jesus divine qualities found only in this very “Special Someone”. Jesus is the object of their affections. He calls them to “Be still” for a period of time to reflect on His “Person” and His divine attributes which is the Good News to a dying world.

The Apostle Paul attributes to the Good News the character of God’s glory. Have you considered the depths of the meaning of God in all His glory? “Be still,” Your mind, body, and spirit will take on a new dimension. We must silence our being. Enter into the closet, bow our hearts before the Almighty, and then, “Be still” and know His glory. His perfection of His person, His attributes of holiness, it is His blood that has washed away all sin, His justice that reconciles man to God, His amazing grace that sent His only Son to take upon Himself our inequities.

Are you ready to enter that quiet place? Take time out somewhere in that busy schedule today and “Be ye separate.” “Being still” today will provide you opportunity to acknowledge what God is and what God continues to do in and through your life. “Be still and know that I am God,” (Psalm 46:10) will attribute glory to your life! Well, the ball is in your court. My suggestion my friend is “JUST DO IT!!

FLYWHEEL

“Enter the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and different is the way that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

In the film, “Flywheel” there is a 1958 Triumph sports car that is beautiful and shinny. However, it sits dormant in the garage because it is missing a key operational part. This part requires a very precise fit, it is the flywheel. If the flywheel is not perfectly connected with the gears, the classic sports car will go no where. It will never cruise the coastline, challenge the track, or experience the hill. It will be grounded to the dark walls of the garage or salvage yard. What a waste of precious metal!!!!!

Have you ever considered that your natural body is like a well-engineered Triumph without the flywheel? Your earthly existence is incomplete without the precise fit of God’s Spirit living within you. The natural man without the Spirit of God within can do a lot of things, it can shine and look good, it can appear super powerful, but it lacks the precise fit. Man’s religious attempts, self-righteous acts, and wide open approaches to attain the eternal will not get the Triumph out of the garage.

Jesus said, “Enter the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go on by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it (Matthew 7:13-14). The flywheel is necessary to run the car. The Holy Spirit is necessary to run the eternal victory race. It is precise in its fit. There are no alternatives.

Life eternal in paradise is found through faith in Christ. It is through Him who lived, died, and rose again. Salvation, your flywheel to heaven, is by grace alone but it is not an easy fit. The mechanic is the Father, The cross is the starter, and Jesus must be your driver! Knowledge of the truth, repentance, and submission to Christ Jesus as the driver of your life will give you the victory lap. This narrow and precise connection will move you triumphantly out of the dark garage and into the race of victorious life forever.

The checkered flag is ahead for those who put Christ in as their “FLYWHEEL”!

Less Is More

“YOU must become greater, I must become less.” (John 3:30)

God, Son of God, the Christ, the Man – Jesus of Nazareth is all in all and it is said in the gospel of John 3:30.

When is having less a greater achievement than an abundance? The majority would respond, “Never!” And, “never” would be the correct response for all who are of this world. In today’s collapsing economy, the majority is in great woe. The affect of the less is like the withdrawals by the addicted. The “fix” is their only desire, their “one thing” that will bring more to their existence. The worldly being is attached to the more. It will take a miracle to reverse it. He is risen! (Mark 16:6) The miracle already happened. The world did not receive and therefore “less is more” has no place for them. The apostle Paul achieved greatness with less and he wears a crown today. Have you discovered the mystery of less is more? Listen to Jesus and follow Him.

PRAY

I Thessalonians 5:17 “pray continually”

WAIT

I Corinthians 9:23 “become all things to all men ... to save some.”

Psalm 20:4 “may He give you the desire of your heart!”

THEN

Grateful to YOU, Oh Father, my God and Lord ... cleanse me, fill me, empower me to stand firm through humility and with great patience.

As we contemplate our “More and Less” standing as the holidays begin, let us put our eyes on Jesus to lead us to HIS more and our less. Great peace awaits each of us.

Chappy and Sandee Move to Dominican Republic

There is so much to be thankful for during this season of change. God is good all the time. He never changes.

The Lord has put on our hearts the following verse from Exodus 34:10:

Then the LORD said: “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the LORD, will do for you.”

We believe that the prayers of the saints accomplish abundantly above all that we could think or ask. The Lord is doing a mighty work and we are privileged to be a partner with you in it!

Sandee and I will be leaving San Diego on Monday, October 26 for the Dominican Republic to set up our home.

Chappy will continue to oversee MOTE USA, as it’s founder and president, from the Dominican Republic. MOTE is blessed to have a great staff here in San Diego to see that the ministry programs continue without interruption! It is our hope to travel back to San Diego as funds are provided.

This entire year has been a transition for us both. The amount of love and prayer and support has overwhelmed us, and has comforted us in our response to HIS calling. We have been loved on and prayed over by so many, at homes, and at churches, that we are drenched in the oil of the Holy Spirit! We covet your prayers and support as we make this move to the Dominican Republic to serve.

Peace Awaits

“For this very reason make every effort to add to your faith goodness, and to goodness knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control, and to self-control, perseverance and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindles, and to brotherly kindness love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-8

Make more effort to add to your faith. What does that look like? Am I supposed to seek the things of God more than I am already doing? Whoa! I thought becoming a Christian was a loving, gentle and smooth road that was a real good insurance for my soul! My friend, it is all that and more. In the Apostle Peter’s second letter and in this specific section of the text, God the Holy Spirit is prompting the follower’s of Jesus of Nazareth to crank up the inner man, keep the apathy in check and focus on the glorious future He has set before us.

It means to me that I must turn my thoughts toward Jesus more and more. It means re-direct my mind from its downward, inward, carnal focus in me and lift my heart upwards to the goal of pleasing my heavenly Father. It means to purposefully forge ahead through the barriers of selfishness and break into the light of extending my hand to help someone else, call someone who needs encouragement, visit the shut-in, feed the homeless, and write the note to the prisoner. Yes, this is a struggle to do good because mankind’s nature does not like anything but full attention. It is narcissistic to the extreme and therefore crucifixion is necessary to be a follower of the Most High God who has called you to holiness. Therefore, determine this day to make more effort to add to your faith goodness, knowledge, self control, perseverance; brotherly love. Peace awaits those who are doers of the Word and not merely hearers of the Word. Increasing measure my son, increasing measure my daughter, now that is a worthy exercise that will result in JOY in all circumstances!

Taking Quiet Time with God

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” 1 Peter 5:7

In this part of the world and in this techno-info-demando- age, for one who is a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, “taking quiet time with God” is not a norm, nor is it automatic, or is it in the routine! Quiet, set apart and alone time must be wrestled for. It has to be covert at times because of the demands of others. Besides the adversary whose purpose it is to keep you from this all important “quiet time with your loving Savior” is to keep you off balance in order to fulfill his “devilish” purpose to rob, steal and destroy your loving relationship with the One whom gives life and life more abundantly. But, the “taking quiet time with God” comes down to this: how important is that QUIET TIME?”

What measure of value do you place upon that time with YOUR LORD? Maybe, just maybe you have been prompted today, now to increase its priority. Now is a good time to take “quiet time with God” and enjoy HIS LOVE FOR YOU!

“But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” (Genesis 3:9-10)

There are all kinds of pain. I do not have to list them. One source of pain is grief. Can it be said that at Adam’s original sin in the garden instigated grief or possibly original pain? Did God grieve? Is it possible the omnipotent experienced pain?

You know, when a mother is first told that her beloved son has been killed in war … Oh my God NO! When a husband receives the call that his precious wife of five years died in a tragic car crash … Oh my God NO! When Eve received word that her son Abel was dead … Oh my God NO! Eve’s pain as a mother was the first, but it was not the original pain. “Oh NO” was not proclaimed by the mouth of His beloved creation, but from His very being.

Consider Adam’s choice to rebel against His Maker. Adam’s original sin spread depravity through all that God called good and very good (Gen 1:31). The moment in time past when the action took place God wept (John 11:35). God is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb 13:8) God the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, all knowing One understood the origin of pain because God wept when Adam sinned. God’s pain and tears have filled the oceans. He knew that this act would require His only begotten Son to go to the cross. He knows our pain and He chose to take it all upon Himself. He did it because, like the mother, the husband, and Eve, HE loved! God loves deeply!

He sent His Son so you and I would know He cares about us. Believe and trust His amazing grace. The grief from the garden that brought profound pain also instigated profound forgiveness, hope and unending love. Jesus lives today and forever. So can we who receive HIS gift … (Ephesians 2:8 – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Our pain can turn to joy when we turn to Jesus Christ. Today is a good day to make that choice!

May the God of all comfort fill your heart with peace and power in HIS Spirit.

La Mesa Prison in Tijuana was opened to our visit today after long and prayerful petitions! The Lord has shown us favor with the prison administration to continue the American Christian Church for the women and the men on Thursdays (1:00 to 3:00 for the women and 3:30 to 5:00 for the me). A very dedicated servant leader, Joe Preston, who has faithfully delivered mail and posted the inmates funds on their prison accounts (money received by MOTE from families), has done this weekly even though the prison has been closed to our going inside and having church services. Joe is a man of God who walks as Jesus walked (1st John 2:6), what an honor to serve with this man today!

The faithful team: Pastor Dan Maxton, Ken Gerard, Doug Maltman, Pastor Tom Trotter and others. The faithful team of women: Sharon Maxton, Cathy Rugg, Laurie, Louise and others ... The LORD is glorified through HIS faithful saints and we are in awe at their dedication to service!

Today, Thursday May 21, 2009, 1:00 PM, we traveled into Tijuana not knowing if the gates would be open to us. We agreed to do a prayer walk first, and that would be Very Good for the prayers of the righteous D O accomplish much … BUT God !

Arriving at the prison walls a 2:00 PM, Joe and I did a prayer walk around the walls asking God our Father to show us favor and to allow us entry to visit the men and have church services. We cried out to the MOST HIGH God and HE responded to us with a Y E S!

The hand of the Lord was upon us, we entered in, we were led to speak to the Sub-Director and we did! After we thanked him for giving us permission to enter and have church today, I boldly asked if we could have permission to have a Baptism Celebration next week with food donated to MOTE from "Chic-fil-A", and the Sub-Director and the head of Social Services said this is very possible … we took that as a Y E S !

Next Week NINE ( 9 ) men will be Baptized !!! what a Celebration it will be the Sub-Director gave us permission to have an additional eight (8) MOTE servants come in and assist ! - CAN YOU GO ? It is going to be awesome !!

3:15 to 5:00 PM - In the American Christian Church T O D A Y the Service was so full of love and joy and fellowship, 52 Americans in the room praising and singing and hearing the Word of Truth proclaimed by the Lord's servant, me, Pastor Chappy on Isaiah 61: 1 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon me ..." The church time went by so quickly, but the time together was edifying for all especially Joe and myself ... praise be to God forever.

Ranch Bernardo Baptist Church Senior Pastor Dan Maxton with his gifted wife, Sharon, (this Christ like couple) are setting an incredible example to the Body of Christ whom they have been called to shepherd. Their dedication to serve the men and women inmates in the La Mesa Prison is an example to follow. The ministry of MOTE, Sandee and I are so grateful for your teaching it is equipping the saints and the evidence of that is the fruit within La Mesa ! Thank you for your example to us and to so many others!

The love of the Lord fills our hearts with such overwhelming joy - It Makes You Just Want to S H O U T PRAISE BE TO GOD!!!

WALK IN UNITY

“Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” (Ephesians 4:2)(NIV)

Making allowance for someone else is one of those big challenges I have. How about you? I must exercise my will to be subject to the leading of the Spirit, morning and evening, in order to keep the old nature in check. How about YOU?

This letter to the saints who are in Ephesus would be challenged too. I think Paul struggled with it so he shared what the Spirit prompted him to write, “making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” (Ephesians 4:2).

Chapter four begins the practical section of Ephesians. “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling YOU have received.” (my emphasis) The introduction serves as a bridge connecting all the Apostle Paul had written up to this point. Chapters 1, 2, 3 are theological – now Chapter four begins the practical application. Crossing the bridge from analysis to action, therefore from theology to morality, and from Christian PISTIS (Greek for faith) to Christian ZOES (Greek for life).

Worthy, the Greek word AXIOS is an adverb which refers to SCALES meaning “bringing into equilibrium.” The idea of one thing being the equivalent of another thing. In other words, a Christian’s lifestyle – your practice each day is equivalent to your professional practice in the world.

Paul begins the transition from theology to practice that the reader/listener of this Epistle will be doing what the whole book of Ephesians tells him to do – the ZOES/the life lived worthy – is a balance. A balance that when the Lord directs, is a Spirit filled ZOE! A Christ follower who is led by the Spirit . . . is effective through making allowances for others seeing others more important than self which is called humility. Caring through gentleness, consistent in waiting and reflective by giving away Christ like love is practical faith in action. These are the bridges to walk in unity with God and others. Make the extra effort today to be patient with others in the unity of faith.

Remember That?

“Remember that at that time you were
separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship
in Israel and foreigners to the covenants
of the promise, without hope and without
God in the World.” (Ephesians 2:12)

“Remember” . . . that line spoken by Spock into the mind of Doctor McCoy in the Star Trek Series. . . “Remember” . . . the word was powerfully spoken because it had great significance for the future of mankind . . . that was a time from the make-believe. But in the real world where we human beings live each moment, this important word “remember” takes on eternal significance that determines one’s destiny.

“Remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.”

I do remember that time . . . I remember when I lived my life completely void of God. I remember that I had no interest in Jesus Christ . . . other than to use it in vein! Is this where you are NOW? The word “Remember” has no point of reference or does it? The words “at that time” have no meaning to a non-believer . . . there was no time or date where they can say, “I do remember” that time when I heard the Good News that Jesus forgives. My friend you are hearing or reading it now. Now you have a remember time when these words are going into your mind. You are without excuse. Remember that at that time which is now you are separated from Christ, excluded from citizenship in heaven . . . without hope . . . without the love of God . . . but now that you have a “remember” time you can have newness of life . . . now that is worth remembering!

A life now that is enlightened and eternal. A new life that is glorious! But, it’s up to you to remember that your sin separates. Our Jesus blood seals the covenant of grace; confession sanctifies the soul and redeems the sinner. Remember . . . the blood of the Son of God is precious, priceless and powerful, able to save a wretch like me and you. . . REMEMBER THAT!

Mexico MOTE Conference-a Wonderful Success for the Ensenada Prison Ministry

February 9, 2009, at the Newport Beach Hotel, Rosarita Beach, Mexico

The Vision was caught by the Mexican pastors during the Conference for the MOTE Prison Program. Coming from as far away as Oxaca, 162 senior pastors from Baja, Mexico, evangelical churches and the Foursquare Church denomination (supervisor/Bishop Juan Muzquiz Velazque) attended the all-day conference by Dr. David Walden, aka Pastor Chappy.

The first of four conferences planned for 2009 and 2010 was received with excitement! Sixty senior pastors signed up for the MOTE Executive Training Team workshop to engage their churches in the MOTE prison program of Evangelism, Discipleship (CBS Bible studies) and Rehabilitation job development.

Your prayers have been answered. Keep praying and please consider partnering with God in financially supporting this good work that the Lord has called MOTE to do in Mexico.

But as for You!

"But as for you" (Titus 2:1)
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21)
Today you and I will have choices to make . . . choices that will affect the day . . . your day . . . your well being . . . your outcome for today. Choices you and I will make today, will affect those around us in three ways. The first is “no effect”, the second is “destructive effect”, and the third is the “positive effect”.

No effect means, no effect on 6 or so billion people on this spec called plant earth . . . or do we have an effect? God knows! But, those whom we do come in contact with, that remaining small percentage . . . ahh you and I have a choice. Choice two or three, one or the other. The choices are ours. Yes, we have this wonderful ability to speak a word, offer a facial or body expression or even extend service, or not!

Today you can choose to say nothing to someone who smiles at you. You can choose to frown or wear an angry look, speak the course word or walk past the one who needs a helping hand. It is your choice, and it’s all yours . . . you own it! Consider that whatever you do effects others whom you come in contact with. It is real! Its affect can destroy, if only for a moment for some, eternity for others. God knows! It is your choice and it is powerful. Yes, you can be a powerful person for destruction, it’s a choice given to you freely. What a wonderful God who does leave the decision up to us – he gives us the choice. We can speak life . . . that’s right, or death for life and death are in the power of the tongue.

God gives us the choice to speak life. “Lord, today I choose life in you to give life away to others”, that’s a positive choice. The choice I make today is life. I choose that my words and actions today can encourage a neighbor, can pray for their needs, or can extend a helping hand just as Titus spoke out “But as for you speak the things which are proper”. The positive choice will affect your life and those in your path. That is new life for today.

Prison News - Ensenada Prison Ministry Begins

Pastor Dr. David “Chappy” Walden (also known as Pastor Chappy) has been invited by the Foursquare Churches and other evangelical leaders of the Northern Baja Pacific Region to be their keynote speaker on February 9, 2009, at the Rosarito Beach Hotel. Two hundred pastors from the region will be in attendance for the one-day conference. The Christ-Centered Collaboration is creating—sustaining—expanding the prison ministry through evangelism, discipling, and rehabilitation within the four prisons of northern Mexico.

The opportunity to expand the MOTE Prison Ministry is due to the success in the Dominican Republic. MOTE’s prison ministry project began with the four conferences Pastor Chappy did in 2007-2008. Seven hundred pastors from the Dominican Republic participated and are now engaged in prison reform with the Dominican Republic. Now Mexico has caught the vision!

God’s Word and the indwelling Spirit are THE SOURCE of full life now and forever. Jude 20: “Therefore, my friends, build yourselves, exercise your spirit in your most holy faith” and pray without ceasing in the Holy Spirit … for if you do this in increasing measure you will be a powerful witness, a lighthouse to the world and a strong tower against the evils of the world!
Pastor Chappy has 15 years of ministry in LaMesa Prison in Tijuana. His second church plant in Ensenada has caught the hearts of the pastor in this region, and along with the vision of MOTE, is now ready to exalt Jesus Christ with relationships to evangelize “the people on the edge.”

The Lord is my Portion

The man heard from God and he became the messenger. He was told to go to the one whose Lord is his portion. The messenger spoke to the one that the Lord had sent him to and the messenger was told to give, the one whose Lord is his portion, the coin with the ten engraved in the precious medal given to him. When the messenger looked directly into the eyes of the one whose Lord is his portion he spoke these words, “The Lord told me to tell you that this coin is for you, but do not look at it’s value, but this is what the Lord has said “This coin represents ten nations that you, the one whose Lord is his portion, will take your ministry and impact ten nations”, says the Lord who is your portion. The messenger put the coin in his hand, clapped it and said, “Wear this coin, display this coin as a memorial to remind you that the Lord has sent his messenger to the one who’s Lord is his portion.”

Is the Lord your portion? Remember He is even when we think or act as if God were far removed. My good friend, He is as near as the words on your lips . . . “Yes, Lord Jesus. You are my portion and I will hope in you!”

The song, "Your Love Reaches Me", is a truth that needs to be said more often than hearing it on K-Love. It is time to stop and consider how God's love reaches, reaches into the most inner-part of the soul, does it not move you to say 'O'God, your love reaches me. It's what I need. Is that what you need today? God gives us HIS unending love. Are the realities of this present world overwhelming you? troubling your soul? Is there an emptiness needing that gentle touch, that reassuring word of hope, a sign that brings a sigh of relief? Are you in need of this reassuring hope? is that a need for your soul today? It surely is mine.

When my eyes and my ears see and hear this world decline downward, and goodness and encouragement seem so distant, do you ever ask, "How can it be Jesus? Jesus Jesus! My heart chooses to sing YOUR name-oh and YOUR name reaches me deep into my inner man THANK YOU MY LORD! for what you have done. You met me here and now, you delivered me then and there, you healed me. It's your blood at Calvary that reaches me, delivers me now! YOU LORD. Your love is my strength, your love is my supply, your love reaches me and I just want to say THANK YOU LORD; Romans 8:35 your love speaks to me and I know it is speaking to you nothing will separate us from Christ's love - NOTHING!

May the Word of God comfort and strengthen your resolve to live courageously and confidently this day and the next.

Selfishness to Selflessness

The woman behind the cash register at one of the ABC Stores lined along Wakiki looked like she was in pain. I placed the items to purchase on the counter which included a box of Claritin. It caught her attention. She smiled through her anguish and said, "Oh, I need to buy some Claritin, my sinus headache is bad today." I am her first customer - it's 6:30 in the morning.

My wife Sandee has been in pain for 24 hours with a severe migraine. She throws up during the entire migraine attack. The lady behind the counter looks like she may do the same and my heart, the one Christ Jesus transformed, speaks out with compassion, "My dear lady, I'll open this Claritin I've bought and you take what you need!"

"Oh, no Sir, I'll be okay. Thank you." I purchased the items and went on my way. The walk along Waikiki shore back to my hotel sent streams of love into my inner man, My God had changed my heart. In my life before I asked Jesus into my heart, I would have purchased the Claritin, oblivious to the woman's pain, rushed back to the hotel to give my wife her pills, and scrambled out to fill my needs for my self-ISH-ness.

God who rescued me from self-ISH-ness has magnified my joy with self-LESS-ness! The less has given me MORE!

Paul said it so well in Philippians 1:6, "being confident of this that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." The less I am in the world - the MORE I AM IN CHRIST.

John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father without going through me."

Are you suppressing the truth about Jesus of Nazareth in order to protect your own lifestyle? My fellow human being, the Maker of it all . . . that's right, the one who created you and me . . . dirt/dust, 17 minerals that these bodies we live in . . . are the Creator's. He made us out of the dust and breathed His Spirit into us . . .

God of Heaven, the Jesus, the man God sent to remove our sin at the cross 2,000 years ago . . . for those who believe . . . He restored the sinner, you and me sinners . . . we all miss the mark of perfection . . . but if God is perfect morally, God cannot tolerate sin . . . God does not tolerate self-centered lifestyles. The secular world does . . . but the anger your Maker has is real. It erupts against those who persist in sinning. You ought to know that the love of God is absent completely from those who choose the secular lifestyle - zero love - zero blessing - 100 percent satanic pure evil.

Wake up and know the truth. Today is a good day to step out of your fantasy. Your Maker invites you to reason with Him . . . come let's reason together . . . Yes to Jesus is a lifestyle that is white as snow. Welcome home a life styled by Christ.

Simple

"If you love me, you will obey what I command." (John 14:15)

Love-Follow-Trust are simple acts everyone is capable of. Love one another is within everyone's ability to do. Follow a good idea, plan or person is quite easy for the young, the old, the student or scholar, the rich, and the poor. Trust is an assurance that comforts, sustains, and gives us peace. Since these three acts offer such satisfaction, then why aren't there more people practicing them?

The simple truth is made plain to us all when we do them. We experience inner joy, security in our daily travels, and confidence as a result of the placement and the acting upon the dreams, hopes, and future. It really is simple.

Hate and pride lie on the opposite ends and are complex. The effort and continual exertion of energy to perpetuate these opposites of love, follow, and trust ought to make their popularity the least of options humans would choose. Yet the three, hate, pride, and lies dominate the horizon. I guess it's not simple after all. God who is love, Jesus who said, "Follow me," and the Spirit who simply says "believe, do not rely on the hate, pride, and lies."

Do not rely on your own understanding. It must be that we are the problem, the hate-pride-lie, and we humans do not like simple. It's a sad thing to choose poorly. Life could be so simple, love, follow, trust - ahhh, that's so nice. As for me, I am choosing to act on love, to move towards following Jesus and surrendering to God's truth - trust in the Lord with all your heart - the world's way is to rob, steal, destroy, but simple faith came to give life - full."

The Road To Boldness

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus." (Acts 4:13)

When I hear the word boldness, especially in the context of today's American culture, it brings to mind a person who is conservative in their values, generous in their caring for the less fortunate, and generally Bible believing members of a Christ following church. For these people who stand up and speak clearly about their beliefs about marriage between one man and one woman, that abortion is killing a human being, family values are honored, and love for our country is worth defending, boldness is required. Boldness was not an issue in times past. But that was before prayer was removed from society. The Ten Commandments were changed to ten suggestions, thou shall not kill is now a "suggestion." But oh, if you stand up in today's society and stand for the absolute truth of God's Holy Scripture, you will need to be very strong and courageous like Joshua was in days of old.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon commented on this Scripture. Here is what he said, "Be like Jesus-very valiant for Your God-Imitate Him-in your loving spirit-think kindly and do kindly-that men and women may say of you-they have been with JESUS."

Friend of God, follower of Jesus, being bold today requires that you and I spend much time with Jesus. Otherwise we will become ineffective and silenced. Is that what has happened to our land? What is your stand? Where are you, and will you, spend more time with Jesus?

Faithful One

"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10)

When I cry out to YOU my Father, Holy One, Compassionate One, Faithful One, YOU are right there. I am secure in YOUR Being. How wonderful, how marvelous, my God, my Savior, my Lord Jesus, YOU are my all in all. Complete in Christ Jesus is indescribable. Have you tasted how good HE is? Do you know this security? Have you understood His amazing love? Will you?

Why on earth would you not? Oh, I understand some of you may find your security in your position, your bank account, your interpretation of "what it's all about." I will pray that your eyes will be enlightened and your mind transformed.

Face it my friend, your DNA is the only one of its kind. One life. One earthly existence. No second physical life. This is it. It's over very quickly for some, and maybe 80 years for others, then you are out of here. Where will your spirit be? Jesus lived - died - and like no other - JESUS rose from the dead. That is factual. His words are tough. Repent of your sins. Turn to ME and you will be saved from eternal darkness - rescued from the pit of hell.

The road map He gives that leads to the indescribable peace, security, and hope is the road less traveled and few will take it. I sure hope you do. I will pray for you if you would like me too. Or, you could just do what I did, "surrender self and submit to Christ." It is simple faith.

The living God who is the Faithful One, is faithful to renew your being and restore your soul. Jesus is the only Faithful One. He is calling you, just like He called me. What a wonderful way to live and love. Will you join me and the Faithful One today? He is calling. Tune in to HIM and LIVE.

Do You Know?

Sanctification, now that is a mouthful. The large majority of the world is clueless to the word's true meaning. Do you think you know or must you examine its significance a little more to comprehend its profound effect on the regenerated human being? That's right, sanctification only applies to people who are justified by faith. When you and I hear the good news that God so loved HIS creation, the people God, the Father, created to worship Him alone, and though the one's He created turned against His love, God sent His only begotten Son to be a substitute for mankind's rebellion.

The Creator God became a man to pay the penalty for all mankind's sin and this one-time event was enough to justify all mankind, if they believe. Many do not believe and do not know sanctification. Some do know. They are being sanctified day by day. Do you know sanctification? Do you want to know sanctification? It will only be given to those who confess with their mouths and believe in their hearts that Jesus Christ is the only Savior of the soul, Master of their lives, Son of God. Sanctification, becoming more like Christ, divine in the glorified state. Today, now, is a good day to know now that you know.

John 14:6, "Jesus said, I AM the way to lasting life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

What comes to mind when you hear this term? Checking in when you were ten was mandatory or you faced the one who had "that look." Those words, when you were a senior in high school and they handed you their keys, took on a deeper responsibility. The process of checking in is preparatory for the man who takes one giant step for mankind. "Will you marry me?" Those four words are wrapped in the package of "check in." If man does not regularly check in with the one who responded "I do", well, man, you know the consequences will be cold, lonely, and costly.

The soul has a "Check In" responsibility as well. The Maker of your soul requires His creature to "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness" (Matthew 6:33). Checking in with Jesus is not optional. Checking in with Jesus results in righteous living. Checking out Jesus is the first step towards checking into His kingdom.

O' LORD my God, YOU ordained the days of my life. YOU entrusted YOUR treasure into my safe keeping. YOUR Word is more precious than gold, more valuable than diamonds, and YOU, O' God, have entrusted "IT" with me. My Jesus, My Savior, YOU know "i am" is lowly, a sinner whom YOU have rescued out of the dominion of darkness. YOU, my Jesus died for me and YOU conquered the grave for me. "i" owe my all to YOU. Gracious Father, YOU have recorded my name in YOUR Book of life and now "i am" forever in awe of YOU, willing to do and serve YOU in caring and loving others as YOU love and care for me. Distraction

Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

"Distractions can really be a pain, Bra"! (That's Hawaiian for "brother"), I was speaking to my new Hawaiian friend, Bill, while surfing the third break off Waikiki Beach. He stated that he was a follower of Jesus living in Honolulu, a retired Police Officer from San Diego. I learned that he went to Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego where another fellow surfer, Mike McIntosh, serves as senior pastor. But, my new surfer friend said it was about 25 years ago. He sort of said it apologetically, which he did not need to do, but I guess he felt he needed too cause he had been distracted by the things of the world. Especially living amongst the Hawaiian pleasures which he said had drawn him away from God's Holy Word.

We both caught a couple of nice five footers, long rides and a long paddle back out! I came alongside of his board and suggested simply that maybe he might make a U-Turn back to the Word! He appreciated my distraction that was leading him back to the full life Christ promises. The Apostle John in his gospel in chapter 10 and verse 10. Jesus said "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

You know, we could name thousands of distractions if we had the time. A persistent fly buzzing in our ears. The alarm shrill on Monday morning. But, what is a distraction anyway? Self was doing its thing and most happy doing it when something interrupted the all-important self. "How rude!" JaJa Bing would so eloquently say from the Star Wars series. Interruption is not the way of human nature at all. The way of the world has a central focus, which is on self. It, "the self" gives permission to be interrupted, when it is convenient for the "self". However, when the Christian gives self, which by the way was crucified with Christ, self no longer lives. My dear Christian friend, when you allow the distractions of the world to take you away from the Word, as my surfer buddy had done, you become as the Apostle Paul stated to the Galatians in Chapter 3 verse 1, Paul said that they had been "bewitched." The evil one desires to distract Christians by the pleasures of the world, pride of life, lust of the flesh, all to distract the Christian away from the truth of God's Holy Word.

Have you been distracted from your daily devotions, your devotion to daily prayer? (Colossians 4:2) Get the sword out and swat that distracting gnat out of your ear, out of your sight, and be refreshed in your inner person today. No more distraction from God's best for my Hawaiian surfer friend, for you or for me. The best for us is in Christ Jesus - look into His Word and He will meet you there.

Your Attitude of Fortitude determines your Outcome.

The Prayer Approach to the Plate of Grace

When the apostle Paul penned these words in his letter to the church at Colosse, “Be devoted to prayer” (Col. 4:2), he was being led by the same God, and the same Holy Spirit that King David spoke about when he penned in Psalm 109, “But I give myself to prayer”

Friends, are the tongues of envy, slander, or ridicule flying at you these days? Do you feel the impact of the words on your body by the blows of these negative attacks? Words that are empty of love, without encouragement, lacking in compassion. Well, you are not alone! God, who is able to be your personal All Star Catcher, is with you. He is behind you catching all those curve words, all those fast slanders, and all those sliders that attempt to clip you on the head. Believers in the Lord, you who are on the right team, keep that helmet of salvation on tight; keep the shield of faith firm; and the bat of prayer ready to respond. Your grand slam is about to happen. Go to Him! He is on first base terms with you. He is the Second in the trinity as you see Him. Know that! He is risen on the Third day. Now you run the race to Home Plate. Not looking back, but pressing on in your Prayer Approach to the Plate of Grace. World champions, at the throne of the King of kings, to the glory of God. Amen!

Deception

Psalm 119:33-40 "Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared. Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good. How I long for your precepts! Preserve my life in your righteousness."

Every man or woman, boy or girl, teenager, parent, or student, employee or employer who chooses to follow the example of righteousness will be taking the road less traveled. Doing the right thing all the time is so opposite of the ways of the world.

Considering others first, praying in public, attending church on a week night, is very odd in this American culture.

Have you ever considered why that is? Are not these positive acts meant to improve a person's outlook on life?

When practiced daily, doesn't it seem logical that the "doer" of kindness, the valor of courage, the commitment to one's fellow man, are good qualities that improve life, health, family, and community?

Why is it then, with all the benefits, do the vast majority choose to reject the Author, the Finisher of all that is good? Deception! Psalm 119.

Overwhelmed

Psalm 103 "Bless the Lord, Oh my Soul, and all that is within me, Bless His holy name!"

Some days I am so overwhelmed with the peace of Christ that it is difficult to do the daily routine. I suppose this is a good thing because should I experience this abounding presence of the Holy Spirit in such amazing peace, I would not get much accomplished! But, since I presently have it, I am going to soak it up. "Be still and know that I AM God" (Psalm 46) has taken on a new understanding this morning. My inner being knows no ear, it is rejoicing to the point of shouting, Thank YOU, Thank YOU, Thank YOU, my God, my Jesus, my Savior. Is this the sense, the feeling, the exhortation that King David felt when he scribed Psalm 103? Was he experiencing what I am experiencing? Is it possible we are connecting soul to soul? Yes, I believe it is because there is no better way to describe it, but to say, "Bless the LORD, Oh, my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name." (Philippians 4:4, "Rejoice always.")

When you take the time to be with Him, exclusive, to be apart from the attractions, the calls of the world systems, the glamour, frills, and sparkle of Madison Avenue and you purposefully walk alone choosing the quiet meadow, the road less traveled, the trail that leads you to the unknown, it is here where God will meet you.

As you make the bend and you look up . . . each step in silent adoration of God's goodness . . . drawing closer and you see on the hill far away . . . the beauty of the Lord.

Yes, it is what your mind pictured when you drew nearer to the vision that has become tangible . . . it is real . . . it is the "chair," the green little seat waiting for you and it is at the foot of the cross.

It waits for someone to kneel before the King who has come off the cross . . . who finished the greatest assignment, who lives forever to walk with those who will invite Him into their home, their hearts, their favorite chairs . . .

When will you take that walk in the meadow . . . God is calling.

"One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple." Psalm 27:4

Ephesians 3:8 "Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ"

The wise king of Israel, Solomon, wrote this about pride . . . "it goes before destruction." (Proverbs 16:18.) Everything seems really great to those of us who think the world of ourselves. Why, even in our inner voice, we converse these words most eloquently . . . "I am the champion, no room for losers, I am the champion of the world." Rock stars sing it, actors voice it, financiers flaunt it and many a religious person has proclaimed it in the name of God. The Apostle Paul was there too. His pride-o-meter was at its peak as he carried the scroll with the highest of religious authority's golden seal of approval, "stone him . . . stone Stephen; arrest them, throw all of 'The Way' followers into the dungeons . . . Restrain them all as you journey on the Damascus Road." I wonder if Paul, before he heard Jesus say, "Saul, Saul . . ." had recently read some of Solomon's Proverbs, like what we just spoke about . . . pride . . . it goes before destruction. C.H. Spurgeon, "The fuller a vessel becomes, the deeper it sinks in the water." "If you seek humility, try hard work; if you would know your nothingness, attempt some great thing for Jesus." Proverbs 3:5-6 reads "Trust in the Lord, do not rely on your own understanding . . . You see, when we recognize that God is in control there is no oops in his plan. He knows the plans that he has for you. Plans to give you a future and a hope. God tell us "Don't' go the oops route by trying to do it in your own strength . . . "When you seek me with your whole heart and the humility of saying . . . 'Lord give me that understanding and strength that I can walk by faith and by sight . . . that I might be able to accomplish great things for you . . . that I want to be the fuller vessel that is deeply sunken to the floor to say God You are Holy and Good.' " May God bless you today as you go into the world. Be the light and be the salt.

Mr. Blinky

Mr. Blinky". . . Remember those in prison, as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." (Hebrews 13:3)

The prisoners in the decayed cells of Mexico’s prisons know the importance of Mr. Blinky. They are crying out to please send him. Mr. Blinky is a simple blanket.

Have you considered the importance of a blanket? My son Vincent knows; or at least I know how important he knew it was. When he was born, he received his first blanket. On his first birthday, he received many fun toys, but he clung to his blanket.

Upon his second birthday, his Mr. Blinky (the name he gave his blanket) had shrunk to a small rag. Its meaning, its significance, its impact on this little boy’s life was immeasurable.

I learned how important it was to him when Mom and Dad took Mr. Blinky away. The process of becoming a little man is hard. Oh my God! The pain and lamenting from one little soul over Mr. Blinky! Understanding the mind of a child, and his or her “Blinky” requires divine knowledge. Love is central to the heart of the child and the clinging to this blanket. It secures, it warms, and it surrounds the soul from the elements of the world.

Remembering my son’s need for Mr. Blinky causes me to remember those in prison as if I were a fellow prisoner with them. As the writer of Hebrews wrote in chapter thirteen, verse 3. Take that love away and you remove the source of God’s goodness. But God, through His Son, Jesus Christ, has become our covering.

Jesus is that blanket, Mr. Blinky, who will never leave you nor forsake you. He has taken the chill of death and replaced it with everlasting warmth and compassion. 2 Cor. 1:3

Something Special

What comes to your mind when you hear these two words, "Something Special"?

Growing up on the southern California beaches in the late 1950s and 1960s, the "Beach Boy" era . . . "Let's go surfing now" . . . "Catch a wave and you're sittin' on top of the world" . . . the very cool feelings you get when you hear their song, . . . "good, good, good, good vibrations."

What comes to mind for you? Is it something special? Something . . . that something is rooted in love, but did you ever consider that pride and arrogance are barriers to the good vibrations found in loving one another?

The ingredient, the vibes that go deep into the soul of people, is humility - considering others more important than yourself (Philippians 2, 3, and 4).

"Others" focused . . . a consistent concern for the well-being of someone special . . . the orphan, widow, or prisoner. You see in God's economy we do not support the root which is love, but the root supports us. The "something special" is you. You are something special to me. Will you make "something special" today, then walk humbly, love mercy, act justly . . . the root is about to nourish you with good, good, good vibrations. Go serve somebody, go encourage someone, go offer yourself to another. Be something special to a neighbor.

The Grace Effect

"But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect . . ." (1 Corinthians 15:10)

The effect sin has upon me is ugly. If an artist could paint its ugliness on the canvas, I am not sure I would look into its face.

The effect of sin has with it immense pain. Others that were hurt by my sin would not be something I would want to see on the artist's canvas. I do not want to see that either because the effect of my sin on them who I have said I love is too great. I know why the Apostle Paul said in his letter to the Roman church, "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:24-25).

The song "Amazing Grace" takes on new meaning to me. When I look at the artist's canvas of the Christ on the cross and when I look deeply into the pierced hands, feet, and body of Him on the tree and awaken to the reality that Jesus died for me, I see something new. The effect of sin has been supernaturally transformed into the effect of grace. Now the grace effect on me is service, worship, and love, and oh, how I love to look deeply into that canvas!

On hearing this, Jesus said, 'It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." (Matthew 9:12-13)

"NOT" . . . what an important word. It is usually used in a negative way and rightly so. It is not a good idea to drink and drive. It is not a constructive thing to tell your boss to "shove it!" In fact, it is not a good idea to tell your wife or girlfriend, "have you put on weight, Honey?" Not a good idea. A hah! Not is used in a positive way in that instance, wouldn't you say? It will preserve your marriage or your ever hoping to have one!

Jesus uses this key word in the most positive way. The truth He applies because of the word "not" in this passage cannot be overlooked. Pay close attention to the word not in the verse from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter nine, verses twelve and thirteen. Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Those of you listening or reading this who are sure you are righteous and without sin cannot be saved. Your soul is destined for separation from God who is light, love, and peace. You are self-righteous and therefore NOT in the family of God. This is negative . . . that is worse than telling your wife or girlfriend, "have you put on weight, Honey?" . . . not good! Friend, admit it. You are a sinner who needs the Great Forgiver . . . His name is Jesus, for Jesus did NOT come for the righteous, but for you and for me. Sinners who need NOT fear separation from God's light, love, and peace . . . that is good news, NOT bad news!

One Day

Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

First I want to thank you for taking your time to read and listen during this past 2007.

May the coming 2008 be a year of spiritual growth . . . a closer walk with the Creator . . . a rich and bountiful year of HIS blessings. Your encouragement and support has truly blessed me and the missions of MOTE.

The total three hundred and sixty five days this past year really does come down to "One Day". This "One Day" is eternity! We have just finished this One Day which many proclaim, "Merry Christmas".

I am not referring to happy holidays or seasons greetings or other such references to the December 25th "One Day" of the year. The great "I AM" as described in the book of Exodus is being celebrated on this day!

It is the One who was, who is, and who is to come again, that is celebrated on this "One Day" of each year.

The living God over all creation who controls global warming . . . who hates evil . . . loves that which is good . . . and has given to all mankind the commission on how to act before His face . . . "Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)

The One who is celebrated on this "One Day" of every year has given all mankind the truth. "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me . . . (John 14:6).

Yes . . . is the only response to the words "Merry Christmas." It is truly a time, the one special day that mankind can truly be merry because of what the One God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit did on this one special day . . . the babe in a manger.

Chains Of Empathy

Hebrews 13:3 "Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners"
I remember the sound as if it were yesterday. "David Walden, you have a visitor! Go immediately to the administration."

The heart pounds right out of your chest when your name is broadcast across the prison yard. It echoes off the forty-foot walls, flat and cold and without design as if to say, "nobody cares about you!"

But God, He sends the messenger.

But God, He moves on the hearts of His chosen and prompts them to respond to His call, "Who will go for us?" (Isaiah 6:8).

The sound of God's voice flowing through the vessel of the messenger, "David, my friend, I am here to visit you." It is the voice of empathy. It is the embrace of love. It is the comfort (2 Cor. 1:3) that comes from the one who "remembers those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners." (Hebrews 13:3).

When was the last time you thought about those who are in the local jail, the state prison, the federal penitentiary?

Today is a good day to begin . . .

Pray for those behind bars.

If You Believe

Matthew 21:22 "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
What a giant word “if” is!

It is life-changing, family building, soul searching, world altering. There is so much power in this simple conjuncture. Negative and positive hang on either side.

Since “God is spirit . . .” (John 4:24) and it is impossible to intimately know God without faith (Hebrews 11:6), then on the positive side of “if” is belief.

Jesus said, according to the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 21, verse 22, “If you believe, you will receive . . .” Now that has a positive ring to it.

But on the other side of “if” would be the negative. The opposite of belief is doubt - - - unstable, inconsistent, wavering off course and unsure.

Is that how you are today? Have you been unstable a week, a month, or longer? If you have, then grab a hold of the other side of “if”.

Jesus Christ is on the right side, and He alone offers you and me stability, security and the positive promise.

“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Ask Jesus in, He is knocking at your door . . . He will come in IF you believe.

Alone with God

When I go to my secret place . . .
When "i am" is alone with YOU . . .
Though the fog approaches all around me and dims the light from above . . .
I will take refuge in this place.
YOUR divine power dwells here . . .
YOU listen to me in this quiet space, at this present time in all of time that YOU have created.
YOU meet this lowly creature whom YOU have chosen, rescued, redeemed, and understand.
I find peace here.
Thank YOU, Father, for loving me.
I need YOU.
YOU replace that which has been poured out to others . . .
I get so drained which is my spiritual act of service, a living sacrifice that is acceptable to YOU.
And in this giving to others day in . . . day out, abiding in YOU, my God restoreth my soul . . .
HE meets my every need . . .
HE is my portion WHEN I go to my secret place.

When is the last time you were there?
Do you miss the sound of the air?
Can you taste he wind that crosses your nostrils?
YOUR Creator understands your needs in truth.
HE knows and comprehends what you are thinking right now as you read this! (Psalm 139:2b) . . .
Refresh yourself my friend.
Recharge the battery . . .
It will cost you all but a little "time" . . .
How much "recharging" depends on how long you visit HIM in the "secret place."

When? Win!

Philipians 3:12-14 "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

When my emotions get the better of me and my anger goes that next step; when I listen to the world system which encourages me, “indulge self,” “take,” “hold on too”; when both combine against me and I succumb to these forces, the after effect for the believer can be shame and even the pain of guilt.

Have you been there? Are you there now? When the believer is there, a friend is needed. A friend, not a professional. A listener who will come alongside and “be still and know that ‘I AM’” (Psalm 46:10) is with you.

The internal war goes on, the external realm of darkness persists to put out the light. But God! My friend and fellow follower of Jesus of Nazareth, stills the emotions through quiet adoration of Jesus (Psalm 27:4), confess that “step over,” that went beyond anger and seek to reconcile; thank the only true God who has overcome the world and is in you (Philippians 1:6).

Then seek to go intimately deeper in knowing Christ … gain Christ … press on toward the goal … right now – today – with an attitude of victory … success …

Win! Now that is a When/Win package for power-filed living!

The Battle of Love

Ephesians 6:10-13 "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."

What comes to my mind as I read this rhyme is celestial battle.

I can almost hear the thunderous sound of gigantic swords clashing, pounding hoofs stomping and thrashing, as warriors of God the Almighty stand firm against the evil villains of darkness.

The war that rages 24/7 is in the spiritual realm.

The battle armor is hardened and sealed with the blood of the King of Kings.

The breastplate the warriors wear is secure because of the cross.

And who are these warriors protecting?

And to what cause do they stand firm?

It is the one who heard the call from the Caller

“Who will go for us?”

And I said . . .

“Here am I, send me!”

It is the youth who hears the gospel at camp and yields to Jesus by faith.

It is the mother who believes the Savior at His Word.

It is the prisoner who repents and is baptized.

And the cause for this battle over these precious saints?

L O V E

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Psalm 11:1 “In the LORD I take refuge.”

Simple Hut

I begin my journey early in the morning seeking God for understanding and His perfect will in my life. It is good to strive for perfection. The Apostle Paul did when he said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

Should "i" attain such understanding and practice it . . . ?

When "i" seek God with all my heart and mind shall “i” not be above all things of this world and a most blessed person? Yes, again “i” say yes!

Serving the Lord Jesus brings me closer to His glory.

Selfish desire separates me from it.

Understanding the will of God begins when "i" seek Him first, early, daily, week by week. It is called devotion.

It is there in the stillness of the day awakening that "i" hear His voice.

"i" recall those early mornings, it was 1984, in my cell, alone, abandoned and in deepest despair.

Jesus visited me there, it was my house. He entered in just as He had done for the poor fisherman when his mother was sick (Mark 1:30).

Jesus made a personal call to the lowly. Although the fisherman was to become a giant in the faith, his journey was through many trials, many denials, and many tears.

The simple faith in the Savior is the beginning of understanding.

The proud in heart, the rich according to the world, are more often than not, without understanding.

"God is oftener in little huts than in rich palaces." (C.H. Spurgeon) Isaiah 1:18.

Pray Always

You will find Jesus by far the best PHYSICIAN , go . . . tell Him at once and tell Him all about the matter.

“Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. So He went to her, took her hand, and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.”
(Mark 1:30-31).

God may not remove all disease, but the follower of Jesus of Nazareth knows that believing prayer for those who are sick are far more likely to experience restoration than anything else in the world.

The Lord over all creation has a tender heart and waits to hear the intercessor’s prayer for the sick. He knows our grief, He understands our frailty. Let us pour them into His patient ear.

The Place of Intercessory

"In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now." (Numbers 14:19)

"Your piety is worthless unless it leads you to wish that the same mercy which has been extended to you may bless the whole world." (C. H. Spurgeon)

May my selfishness be evaporated in the light of Your eternal glory.

Your blood has blotted out my sins.

"i am" is prostrate before You, O' Lord my God, confessing my selfishness, pride, idolatry and so much more that "i am" has done and forgotten.

I bow my spirit before You and look only to the One who taketh away all my sins, Jesus, the Christ, the crucified, the risen Lamb of God . . . and in this lowly place is when "i am" is enriched.

Your grace is sufficient . . . (2 Corinthians 12:9). It is here that "i am" brings petitions for the whole earth to be filled with Your glory.

Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen. (Psalm 72:19)

. . . it is here where intercessory is effective upon Omnipotent One who is longsuffering and the One that invites the sinner to come and reason together . . . "Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." (Isaiah 1:18)

Him on high and "i am" face down . . . this is the place of intercessory.

The Lord Knows You

Do you ever feel like nobody really understands your hardships, nobody knows all the good things that you have done, and nobody really knows your heart? Sometimes I feel like nobody really knows about all my good deeds, my struggles with sin, and how hard I work to be obedient to the Lord. But the Word tells us that God knows everything. He knows all of our good deeds, how hard we work, our hardships, and he knows all the times we have fallen.

Today we are going to take a look at some verses in Revelation. Revelation was written by Apostle John in about 95 A.D. At the time John is writing to the seven churches in the province of Asia to encourage the faithful, and to inform them that a final showdown between God and Satan is imminent. Although his writings are to the seven churches in Asia, the message is there for us.

Revelation 1:10 says "On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, which said: "Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea."

Take note that John tells us "I was in the Spirit". Friends, let me remind you that we don't need to be an apostle or a pastor to be in the Spirit and hear the voice of God. As obedient Christians, we are required to ask the Lord to fill us with His spirit, and to open the eyes and ears of our heart to Him. Then we are called to Love, Trust, and Follow Him.

In Revelation Chapters 2-3 we are reminded seven times that the Lord knows us. Throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, the number seven appears repeatedly and is considered a symbol of divine perfection. As John writes to the seven churches of Asia we are reminded that nothing is hidden from God. To the church in Ephesus John writes "I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance." (2:2) To the church in Smyrna he writes "I know your afflictions and your poverty." (2:9) To the church in Pergamum he writes "I know where you live - where Satan has his throne". (2:13) To the church in Thyatira he writes "I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance and that you are now doing more than you did at first." (2:19) to the church in Sardis he writes "I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead." (3:1) To the church in Philadelphia he writes "He knows your deeds." (3:8) To the church in Laodicea he writes "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot." (3:15)

To know that God knows my works, the love that I have given freely through service to children's ministry, orphanages, youth prisons, Strong Tower ministries, hospitals, and patience with my family and others is incredibly encouraging. He knows that we are growing as Christians. In verse 2:13 he reminds us that he knows that we are now doing more than we did at first.

Yes, God knows all of our goodness and our love for Him, yet there are still things that are against us. Verse 2:4 says "Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love."
We cannot hide our sins from God. He knows when we have fallen and when we have turned our backs against Him. He knows all of our struggles, our hardships, and our sins. The good news is that by trusting in, relying upon and clinging to the blood of Jesus, we are forgiven. God tells us how to overcome the times when we have fallen. And God tells us how to get back up and start over again. Verse 5 tells us to "Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first."

In Revelation Chapters 2-3 we are also reminded seven times "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." (Revelation 2:7, 2:11, 2:17, 2:29, 2:6, 2:13, 2:22) Remember in verse 1:10 when John said "On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet." So how are we able to hear what the Spirit has to say to us? John is very specific when he writes "I was in the Spirit, and I heard".

Brothers and Sisters, in God's perfect love He has given us the gift of eternal life. "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God."

Doesn't that just make you want to jump up and down and shout Hallelujah!!! It does for me. God loves you and wants you in His paradise for all of eternity. He knows your deeds, good and bad, and He has given you instructions on how to overcome your sinful nature. Confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior, ask Him to fill you with the Spirit, and open the eyes and ears of your heart to Him, and you will hear His voice. Then in faith, love, trust and follow Him.

God,
Thank you for your perfect love. Thank you for knowing and understanding everything about us, how hard we work, all of our struggles in life, and our sinful nature. God, thank you for sending your son Jesus to us to teach us how to live and then to die on the cross so that we can live with You, in Your paradise, for eternity. Thank you for the prophecy that You have given us in the book of Revelation, and the encouragement that you give us through the Word. We confess that Jesus is Lord. We are sorry for the sins that we have committed, and we ask for your forgiveness. Lord, please fill us with your Spirit and give us ears to hear your voice. Lord, give us the strength to love, trust and follow You. We ask this all in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
